photo of Chris HollandChris studied for a degree in Chemistry at Manchester University 1966-69, and then for a PGCE at Exeter in 1969-70 before teaching for 37 years at Marlwood School, starting there when it was Thornbury Grammar School. During a sabbatical year Chris studied at Reading for an M.Sc. in Chemical Education and was Head of Chemistry at the school for over 25 years before retiring in 2007.

Chris has an enduring interest in the study and teaching of Chemistry and Science in general. While teaching he set up and taught courses in Metallurgy and Materials Science, Minerals Processing, Science in Society and Environmental Chemistry. He has also taught aspects of the History and Philosophy of Science.

Outside of Chemistry and Science his interests include amateur drama (both acting and set construction), golf, going to the theatre and music concerts, quizzes and crosswords.

Chris is currently in the early stages of organising a Science Festival, hopefully to be held in Thornbury in 2011.
