* Dr Paul Wyatt - Bristol ChemLabS Director

Paul WyattPaul completed his degree in Natural Sciences at Queens' College, Cambridge University in 1990. He then spent a year as a schoolteacher at Bishop Wordsworth's School in Salisbury before moving back to Cambridge where he obtained his PhD with Dr Stuart Warren in 1994.

After one year in Uppsala in Sweden on a Royal Society Postdoctoral Fellowship, he took up his current post at the School of Chemistry, University of Bristol in 1996. As well as running a research group Paul regularly gives Continuing Professional Development courses on organic synthesis to industrial chemists. To date he has given more than 30 courses across 12 sites in 4 countries.

In 2003 Paul was appointed Director of Undergraduate Studies for the School of Chemistry and then in 2005 he also became Director of Bristol ChemLabS.

Education at all levels is important to Paul and, with Dr Stuart Warren, they published their graduate textbook “Organic Synthesis: Strategy and Control” over Easter 2007. He received the 2003 Clifford Wharton Prize for Excellence in Teaching from the School of Chemistry, the 2004 Faculty of Science Teaching Prize in ‘Recognition of energy and commitment to the enterprise of teaching’ and the RSC Education Division Higher Education Teaching Award for 2008. Paul was promoted to a Readership in Teaching and Learning in 2007.
