A HEFCE Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL)
Chemistry education at Bristol is excellent, dynamic and popular with students at pre-University, access, undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD levels.
The Bristol ChemLabS project will build on this context to develop flexible, modern facilities and processes for learning chemistry's core practical element.
Through the Bristol ChemLabS project, we seek to engage with teachers and students of all ages to provide excellent teaching and learning opportunities in chemistry. We have active primary and secondary school programmes and support CPD courses for teachers. The outreach programme is greatly assisted through the appointment of the Bristol ChemLabS School Teacher Fellow.
The redevelopment of the Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories is at the heart of the Bristol ChemLabS project. The new laboratories are due to open in early 2007 offering a state of the art teaching environment with an integrated IT system. This new environment will be the best facility in the country for the teaching of practical chemistry.
As part of delivering the educational aims of Bristol ChemLabS, we are investigating the use of innovative teaching and learning methods. A team of academics from the School of Chemistry is currently redeveloping the entire undergraduate laboratory course to maximise the practical experience in the new laboratories as well as enhancing the learning opportunities with modern technology and e-learning methods.
