Primary Science Visits: Chemists at Your School!
We regularly visit schools to deliver exciting demonstration assemblies and hands-on science workshops for primary pupils.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about availability and costs or click here for more details about Primary Science Visits.
Exciting & interactive science assemblies for the whole school, delivered by a real scientist. These engaging presentations are especially designed to enthuse primary pupils, with lots of visual demonstrations, colourful experiments and even a few explosions!
“Thank you for a brilliant assembly! The whole school were completely enthralled. It provided an opportunity for the children to witness science that they would otherwise be unable to see” Primary School Science Head
Hands-on science practicals to engage and enthuse students. We turn a classroom into a laboratory with activities led by young research scientists. The investigations help develop pupils’ measuring, observation, co-operation and experimental skills.
“The workshops were brilliant, pitched at just the right level and the children loved using all the equipment.” Primary Science Coordinator
The Chem@rt Galleries are a collection of a series of dazzling and intriguing images all produced by real scientists through their research and outreach activities in the School of Chemistry.
The images are FREE to download and can be used to provoke curiosity, stimulate creativity & encourage literacy in creative writing and art activities.
We have a number of Loan Boxes available for primary schools to hire. Each contains a variety of experiments on a different topic to support hands-on learning in primary science.
Primary CHeMneT Mailing List
Primary CHeMneT is a network of mainly primary science coordinators or those teachers in primary schools with a science interest. Members will receive an e-newsletter 2-3 times per year containing information about Bristol ChemLabS activities for primary pupils, teacher training and other information of use to those teaching primary science.
Joining is free. Membership lists will not be shared. Please contact email@example.com to be added to the list.
Undergraduate Ambassador Scheme (Chemistry Undergraduates in Schools)
Some of our undergraduate chemistry degree students carry out their final year research project working with primary or secondary schools to develop science resources. This is part of a national program. Any schools wishing to host a placement student should contact Tim Harrison. Click here for more details about the Undergraduate Ambassador Scheme
Primary Schools Lectures and Conferences
Occasionally we hold conferences or lecture demonstrations at the School of Chemistry for primary school pupils, usually targeted at KS2. This gives a rare opportunity for primary aged children to visit a university. The events take place in one of our lecture theatres which can easily hold up to 250 pupils and supervising adults. School groups, Local Authorities and any other organisations are welcome to contact us to discuss holding such an event.
