Primary CHeMneT

Primary CHeMneT is a network of mainly primary science coordinators or those teachers in primary schools with a science interest. Members will receive an e-newsletter 2-3 times per year containing information about Bristol ChemLabS activities for primary pupils, teacher training and other information of use to those teaching primary science. Joining is free. Membership lists will not be shared. Please contact chem-net@bristol.ac.uk.

Primary Science Visits: Chemists at Your School!

We participate in dozens of primary school ‘Science Weeks’ by turning a primary school classroom into a lab for the day and running a circus of experiments for senior pupils (mainly Y5 and 6).

Click here for details about Primary Science Visits in collaboration with local primary schools.

Primary Science Assemblies

Bristol ChemLabS Outreach performs dozens of demonstration assemblies per term to inspire, entertain and educate pupils in years 1-6. The ‘Gases in the Air’ assemblies concentrate on states of matter, energy, what is and is not a permanent change as well as specific gases. The assemblies are between 30 and 60 minutes duration.

Please contact chem-net@bristol.ac.uk for more information about availability and costs.

Primary Schools Lectures and Conferences

Each term we hold lecture-demonstrations at the School of Chemistry for pupils from Y5 & 6. The lectures are specifically targeted at KS2. This gives a rare opportunity for primary aged children to visit a university for such an activity.  The lectures take place in one of our lecture theatres which can easily hold up to 250 pupils and supervising adults.

Chem@rt

An activity using chemistry research images as stimuli for children's poetry or prose.

If you would like to take part in any of the above or be kept informed about them and other relevant activities, please email chemart-quiz@bristol.ac.uk to be enrolled in the Bristol ChemLabS

Undergraduate Ambassador Scheme (Chemistry Undergraduates in Schools)

Some of our undergraduate students carry out their final year ‘project’ working with primary or secondary schools to develop science resources. This is part of a national program.
