*The Palaeodetective

paleoThe Palaeodetective game software allows the use of deductive work to identify archeological and geological samples from data obtained by several techniques including GC/MS and IRMS. Knowledge of these techniques is not required.

The software takes real examples of research undertaken by the School of Chemistry, University of Bristol's Organic Geochemistry Unit (OGU) into materials as wide spread as Egyptian mummies, pot sherds and fossilized faeces!.

The (OGU) is an international research group that uses high-end analytical techniques such as gas chromatography mass spectrometry and compound specific light stable isotope mass spectrometry to investigate Earth systems at the molecular level. The group interact with a diverse range of fields including: archaeology, biogeochemistry, ecology, environmental science, forensic sciencegeomicrobiology and palaeoclimatology.
