Visit from Stephen Williams MP - 09/08/07

During visit to Bristol ChemLabS on 20 July, Stephen Williams MP was taken on a tour of one of the Salter's/GSK Chemistry Camps in Pharmaceutical Chemistry for Year 10 students from all over the UK. He saw many of the 50 students, working alongside postgraduate chemists and chemistry teachers, synthesising and analysing paracetamol, and had the intricacies of analysis by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) explained to him by one fifteen year old!

The Dynamic Laboratory Manual (DLM), developed as part of the Bristol ChemLabS CETL in collaboration with Learning Science Ltd, has now been in use by undergraduates, postgraduates and staff in the School of Chemistry since February this year. The demo version available here provides an illustration of some of the capabilities of the DLM, which is an interactive, web-based laboratory manual that forms the centrepiece of the newly refurbished Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories.

Bristol ChemLabS Postgraduate Teaching Prize Winners - 13/07/07

The reopening of the newly refurbished Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories was a major event for Bristol ChemLabS and the School of Chemistry and - thanks to a lot of hard work across the whole department - a very successful one. To mark this event, the School of Chemistry has introduced a new award - the Bristol ChemLabS Postgraduate Teaching Prize - to recognise formally high quality tutoring and demonstrating.
