Bristol ChemLabS Wins Times Higher Education National Award - 26/11/10

At the Times Higher Education Awards ceremony held in London last night, Bristol ChemLabS won in the Outstanding ICT Initiative of the Year category. This award, sponsored by JISC, brings national recognition for the innovative Dynamic Laboratory Manual developed by Bristol ChemLabS staff and Learning Science Ltd. All of the ChemLabS staff and students who have been involved with developing the Dynamic Laboratory Manual over the last several years can be justly proud of this considerable achievement.

ChemLabS CEO Nick Norman, who received the Award in London from JISC's Sarah Porter said, "The ChemLabS DLM has transformed the laboratory experience for chemistry undergraduates at Bristol and we are delighted with the recognition that this Award brings. We are all very proud of what we have achieved over the last few years and particularly pleased with how a project developed to support chemistry students is now having an impact in other disciplines and also in schools."

Climate Radio Programmes to be Aired in South Africa - 11/10/10

Dudley Shallcross and Mike Davies-Coleman (Rhodes, SA) have just recorded five radio programmes on the climate as part of the South East African Climate Consortium (SEACC) in response to Buyelwa Sonjica's (South African Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs) request that universities and environmental NGOs of SEACC assist the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) in demystifying climate issues.

The programmes, to be broadcast on Algoa Bay FM South Africa, are part of one such project. A series of 52 radio broadcasts to demystify climate will be aired from November onwards.

The programmes made were:

"What is the atmosphere?" (download mp3 file)
"What is air pollution and how can we reduce it?" (download mp3 file)
"What has happened to the ozone hole?" (download mp3 file)
"What is climate change and global warming?" (download mp3 file)
"Are there ways to combat climate change?" (download mp3 file)

Bristol ChemLabS Featured in Chemistry World - 07/10/10

A feature article on Bristol ChemLabS entitled Dynamic Degrees has been published in the October issue of Chemistry World produced by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
